Experience Dentistry Free From Stress And Anxiety

Anesthetic and sedation options are available to prevent you from feeling pain and discomfort during your dental procedure. There are several methods available and several may be combined to give you complete coverage. The type of sedation or anesthesia used will depend on your personalized treatment plan, your personal needs and the expert opinion of your dentist or specialist.

Types of Sedation

The different kinds of sedation available can be summed up into three major groups. We can temporarily numb the small area receiving the work, You can be sedated so you are still awake but completely relaxed, or you can sleep through your procedure with general anesthesia. Here’s some more information about each group:

Local Freezing

Everyone is familiar with this reliable standard. We patiently numb the area and then carefully inject a local anesthetic to put a small area of your mouth to sleep. You may feel pressure but will not feel pain.

Sedation

Using prescription medication, laughing gas or administered through an IV, with light to moderate sedation you will be completely conscious but totally relaxed. This method of sedation is often used along with local freezing.

Sleep dentistry

General anesthesia or deep sedation will make you very nearly or completely unconscious. Patients who remain awake often report not remembering a thing. You will remain relaxed and drowsy well after you wake up and will need someone to drive you home and stay with you.

Enhancing Dental Visits with Comfort and Ease Through IV Sedation

IV sedation has revolutionized the dental experience, offering a multitude of benefits that enhance patient comfort and ease during dental visits. Administered intravenously, this form of sedation induces a relaxed and drowsy state while maintaining consciousness, allowing patients to respond to the dentist’s instructions. One of the key advantages of IV sedation is its ability to reduce anxiety and fear associated with dental procedures, enabling individuals with dental phobia to receive necessary treatment without distress.

Moreover, the sedative effects of IV medication help alleviate discomfort and minimize pain perception, making even lengthy or complex procedures more tolerable. This method also allows dentists to work efficiently and accurately, as patients remain still and cooperative throughout the treatment. With IV sedation, dental visits become a tranquil and stress-free experience, promoting optimal oral health for individuals of all ages.

The benefits of dental sedation

Sedation and sleep dentistry are useful options that help us serve patients from all walks of life with many different challenges to overcome. Some of the benefits of sedation dentistry are as follows:

Overcoming Dental Anxiety

Sometimes the fear and worry can feel worse than the treatment itself. Dental anxiety shouldn’t stand between you and the dental treatment you need. If you have mild or extreme dental anxiety or fear is keeping you from seeking dental treatment, please speak up! We can help.

Make Time Fly By

For long procedures that leave you sitting in the chair with your mouth wide open for a long time, sedation will keep you relaxed and comfortable. Your procedure will be over before you know it. If you require IV sedation, it will feel like an instant has passed.

Tailored for Your Personal Needs

Do you have a sensitive gag reflex? Chronic restlessness or restless leg syndrome? Does local freezing just not work for you? Sedation is really helpful in many different cases, ensuring that treatment is available to everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rest assured that we talk to each and every one of our patients to understand their medical history to decide if sedation dentistry is the right option for you.
Sedation will make you feel drowsy and relaxed pretty quickly. Some people report feeling a mild tingly sensation. You may also experience mild amnesia afterwards and may not remember anything from the procedure.
Most sedation dentistry options don’t actually involve patients being put to sleep. Rather sedation dentistry allows patients to feel extremely relaxed. You may not even remember any of the procedure once it’s over.
When sedation is involved we always stress the importance of having a friend or family member drive you home and keep you company. It’s important to let the sedation wear off completely and give your body a rest before returning to your regular routine.
If you’ve been sedated for your dental procedure we would advise you to take the day off to recover. A good rule of thumb is to set aside 24-hours before returning to your regular routine. The time it takes for any drowsiness to pass will depend on what kind of sedation you receive but may be somewhere between 2 to 8 hours.

Clear, prompt communication; easy booking; friendly & cheerful reception. Hygienist is a gem - down to earth, helpful, knowledgeable. Office is bright & clean. Transferring from another dentist was a simple process. No gouging or upselling. Very reasonable rates. A clinic in Gravenhurst quoted me double the amount than what I was invoiced @ CCD, for the same services. Overall pleasant experience and good value. Highly recommend.

I felt like the people that work in this office are like family to each other. It was a comfort to me to see that, and once my visit was over I felt like I had just become part of that family. I am happy to have them as my dental office. Thanks Chris

The team at Cottage Country Dental is truly top notch. I have a big fear of going to the dentist, but this was honestly one of the best experiences I have had going to the dentist. Christine was extremely prompt when I submitted an online request for an appointment, and so lovely when I went in for my appointment. My hygienist Danielle was very gentle with the cleaning and regularly checked in throughout my appointment on how I was doing, she was honestly the best hygienist I have ever had, and big bonus she had Fleetwood Mac playing too! The dental assistant Kelly was also extremely kind and was very thorough with her explanations, more so than I have ever experienced at a dentist appointment. Dr. Danyal, while my visit was brief, was informative and very nice too. I was nervous about finding a new dentist after moving here a couple of years ago, but I am glad I chose the Cottage Country Dental team!

I had a very good experience not only as my initial visit as a new patient but also with my following appt for teeth extractions and a follow up. I was extremely nervous but they put me at ease and offer great options for "sleep dentistry". All in all I am very happy with Cottage Country and highly recommend them.
